Yes, props are often used in yoga therapy. They assist with relaxation, balance, support and posture. A lot depends on the client's needs.
A yoga mat is nice to have, but many around the house items can be used for props. For instance, books for blocks, plastic containers for bricks, rolled up blankets or bed pillows for bolsters, scarves for eye pillows, and belts for yoga straps.
